Satrec Initiative (SI) is the leading solution provider for Earth observation missions, offering customers worldwide high performance, cost-effective turnkey satellite platforms, electro-optical instruments, ground systems and components. Focusing sincerely on the customers¡¯ needs with innovative technologies, SI has delivered optimized high quality solutions to over 20 customers in the Middle East, Asia and Europe.
SI was founded in 1999 by the engineers who had developed the first South Korean satellite and a series of advanced small satellites in the University, KAIST, for 10 years, and has successfully commercialized space technology. The company currently has more than 130 employees.
Through continuous technology innovation, productivity improvement and cost reduction, SI provides the most effective and integrated solution for Earth observation missions and applications. Activities in SI cover the whole spectrum for Earth observation missions including spacecraft bus, Earth observation payload, communication equipment and satellite image receiving and processing system.
Another outstanding achievement over the past ten years is the development of new products for defense systems, nuclear safety equipment and commercial remote sensing application software, which are based on the experience gained from development of highly reliable space systems.
SI also provides technical consulting and engineering support from multi-disciplinary and highly experienced engineers and scientists. SI is willing to cooperate with organizations who wish to enhance their space engineering capability in more efficient and effective ways.
SI is a private company listed in Korean stock market, KOSDAQ, since June, 2008, with corporate headquarter in Daejeon, South Korea.

Byungjin Kim is Chief Executive Officer of Satrec Initiative (SI), the world¡¯s leading company in high performance, cost-effective Earth observation small satellite solutions. Kim founded SI in 1999 with his colleagues in order to commercialize the space technologies accumulated through a series of satellite development in the university, KAIST, for 10 years. Kim¡¯s leadership and passion for space have inspired people in the company and his acquaintances in the space industry. Kim and the company¡¯s leaders are focused on continuing SI¡¯s innovation in high performance Earth observation satellite development to provide customers with optimized solutions based on their needs.Before establishing the company, Kim was an engineer in developing attitude control systems for advanced small satellites in KAIST, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, for 10 years and successfully developed three Earth observations satellites including KITSAT-3, which was launched in 1999, was recognized as the best Earth observation small satellite of the time by the participants at the UNISPACE-III held in Vienna in 1999.
Kim was born in Boeun, South Korea in 1968. He holds master¡¯s and Ph.D. degrees in satellite engineering from University College London, UK, and a bachelor¡¯s degree in electrical engineering from KAIST, South Korea. Kim is married with 1 child.

SI is located in Daejeon, South Korea, and it has three headquarter buildings with office spaces, laboratories as well as clean rooms for flight hardware assembly, optics assembly, sensor calibration, electronics thermal cycling test and satellite integration. SI develops most of hardware and software related to satellite platforms, electro-optical equipment and ground systems in house and sophisticated design / development tools, equipment and facilities are equipped for satellite development.
